What Is it Anyway?

It’s podcast on instagram live! If you love both podcasts and insta - you can have both at once :)

I ask some wonderful humans ‘When Did You Thrive Well?

They are caring professionals, parents or they care in another capacity. They are my kinda folk.

My first guest is the lovely Dr Sarah Goulding. We had a good natter and lots of fun.

Yup …actual fun.

We discussed everything from Twister and baby crocodiles to how having fun is important to thrive.

Sarah has played Twister in a Namibian desert. I had a close encounter with a baby croc in flood waters near Darwin  :)

Why is fun important?

It helps us recharge our batteries and improve our mental wellbeing.

We have to even notice our batteries first (watch Episode 1 for more).

Isn’t it wrong to have fun in the midst of a pandemic?

I used to feel guilty too.

So, I never gave myself permission to have fun.

And then I burnout. (There were other factors involved too of course, but lack of enjoyment was definitely a key part)

Hmmm…

What did I learn?

I learnt to give myself permission to have fun when possible.

(P.S. It is not always possible, so make the most of the times when it is)

Having fun doesn’t mean you lack respect or empathy for those going through really tough times.

It means you acknowledge this, as you too have been through really tough times, and may do again.

You are doing all you can to boost your capacity to handle the tough times. For the benefit of you and those around you.

Because you cannot pour from an empty cup.

I am passionate about this (have a gander here if you’d like to read more).

Giving ourselves permission to have fun is critical.

Feeling Rusty?

Kids teach us how to have fun, if you let them.

If you have kids, play with them.

Be in the moment with them. Let them lead the play.

You will feel better  :)

Time to learn from our kids, wrangle baby crocs and have a giggle! (in whichever order takes your fancy)
