How are you sleeping?

It’s one of those things that you REALLY notice if you lack, and sometimes you can take for granted if you don’t…

…having had kids, multiple night shifts, late-nighters for exam cramming (& merry making!) I have had my fair share of sleep deprivation. 

Now I am huge fan of sleep!

  • Did you know that adenosine - which is partly responsible for our sleep drive - is blocked by caffeine?

So - you remain tired, but caffeine stops the message that you are tired ‘getting through?’

  • Or that the half-life of caffeine is approximately 5-6 hours so that daytime cuppa could still be affecting you at bedtime?

  • Or that blue light from screens may not be the ‘sleep baddie’ it has been made out to be?

Sleep Tips from Children

Sleep routines are not just for babies. 

Having a regular bed time, wake time and pre-sleep routine can help grown-ups and children alike to get into good sleep habits.

What about naps?

A short power nap earlier in the day may be fine - but a longer, later one may affect your aforementioned sleep drive - just like that toddler who naps too long in the day, then won't go to sleep at night-time!

With that I’m off to don my cosy slipper socks to get ready for some zzz…

(Yes, I am the proud owner of slipper socks…!)
