…what about the other 50 weeks?
I went on holiday recently.
We didn’t go far, but it was fab. (This was one of our wonderful sunsets)
I hope you get a chance to get away this summer too.
Whilst there, I found my brain was quieter.
I had more time to think…
…to be…
…to reflect.
I slept better, ate better, and all my relationships seemed simpler…
…and it seemed that maintaining my wellbeing was easy, no intention or effort required.
Then I came home, back to the real world, and thought…
…what about the other 50 weeks of the year?
Holidays and all that jazz are wonderful and all –
For the other 50 weeks*…how good are you at giving yourself permission to take a break?
(Permission is a favorite topic of mine - more on that here and here)
“What kind of break?”
Any.
A lunch-break.
A walk-round-the-block break.
A walk-round-your-kitchen break.
A tea-break.
A 3-deep-breaths break.
Hell, even a nip-to-the-loo break is gonna get you out of your chair and thinking about something other than work…
Feeling guilty?
Your performance post-break can be so much better when compared to your performance ‘working straight through’ that the break can often ‘pay for itself…’
Working flat out?
How about a ‘micro break’?
This is a short break you take when you just find yourself thinking…
‘…I just really need a break’
1-2 mins should do it.
Imagine yourself as a boxer between rounds.
A short break can give you the oomph to face anything in the ring.
And with that - I’m off for a tea- break :)
*Had more than 2 weeks holiday in the last 2 years?… I salute you!

Here are some more hacks for an effective break:
Move your body - even simple standing a stretching can help.
Don’t look at a screen on your break (Yup - that includes your phone).
Engage with nature - even a pot plant can help.
Plan your break so you can optimise it;
