You need Support

Hello you lovely lot,

How has September kicked off for you?

I have been dashing about delivering training for GP study days and speaking at the Urgent Care Conference (more on that in future editions). It can feel like quite transition if you have school age kids too...

It’s all about the journey, not the outcome.

Paris 2024 - Who is on your team?

I Love the Olympics and Paralympics. Are you a fan?

Now that the hubbub has settled I have been reflecting on what we can learn from these amazing athletes.

There is of course their dedication, motivation and technical prowess. And the spectacle of the Games itself, the forging of international connections through sport. And Paris. What a gorgeous city. I was lucky enough to make it over for a brief trip and saw some live Olympics - real bucket list stuff.

Above all else, the thing I love most are the interviews with the athletes straight after they compete. Hearing their unrehearsed, unvarnished thoughts.

I listen for themes. What do these elite professionals have front of mind straight after giving their all at the highest level?

Time and again I heard so many say thank you for all the support; from friends and family, from coaches, physios, and other team mates. Not just now, but over the long haul.

So - what can we learn as we work to develop and improve in our life and work?

Even the most talented, motivated person cannot do it alone. We all need support - ideally, a network of support - as one individual is unlikely to be able to provide all the support you need.

You are complex and unique. Your needs are too.

Understanding yourself and your needs empowers you to build the best support team for you.

It's great if we can be part of the support for others as well. After all, that's what builds community.

So I'll leave you with this - who is on your team? How can you make your team even stronger?
